Discover Detroit Scholarship
We want our out-of-state students to discover their home in Detroit.
Discover Detroit Scholarships are awarded to out-of-state students. This scholarship will cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. All out-of-state applicants who meet the below requirements will be considered. Incoming students are eligible to be considered for other merit scholarships awarded to Michigan residents. The Discover Detroit Scholarship award will remain in place until an undergraduate degree has been completed.

Entering first-year undergraduates must have at least a 3.5 cumulative high school GPA

Students must be U.S. citizens or legal residents of the United States.
For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts and test scores) as soon as possible.
Complete the 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for all available funding.
Award for incoming transfer students - fall 2025
Award requirements
Scholarships are available to qualified incoming transfer students who are currently enrolled at a community college. Students who were enrolled at a community college within one of the two semesters prior to their anticipated starting term at Wayne State University also are eligible.

Transfer students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative college GPA with a minimum of 24 transferable hours from a community college.

Students must be U.S. citizens or legal residents of the United States.
For maximum scholarship consideration, you must complete the undergraduate admission application (including submission of all transcripts and test scores) as soon as possible.
Complete the 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for all available funding.
